Unity and Diversity -- Common Progress in Different Regions
In recent years, the development of the Chinese economy has been incredibly fast, some might even call it miraculous. But behind the miracles lies a problem: the development is unbalanced in different regions.
Under the strategy of the Chinese government, China has three major economic regions: the east, the middle and the west. With its advantageous position, the east is the fastest developing area, leaving the west far behind, and the middle somewhere in between. For instance, the GDP per capita in the east amounts to US$2000, while that of the west is only 40% of the east.
Furthermore, the gap between the urban and the rural, according to the State Statistical Bureau, has widened to more than 10 years. There are people in the big cities with large houses, expensive cars, other luxuries and better opportunities. However, there are people in the countryside, living on meager food, without the security of health, education, and so on.
This is the diversity of the Chinese economy. For the unity of the full national economic development, governments of all levels have decided on corresponding strategies, for example, the greater development of the western region, the continuing rise of the central China, and the faster development of the east. Specifically, within the west, provinces alike have established programs of development, with financial and technological aid of the central government, making full use of the western natural resources. Such strategies have turned out to be remarkably successful.
It reminds me of the world. There are wealthy countries in North America and Europe; there are poor ones in Asia and Africa. The aid from the rich world is far from enough to remove poverty in the developing countries. Therefore, with the help of funds, technology, and management from wealthy countries, these developing countries now have the opportunity to establish their own right strategies of development, taking full advantage of their natural and human resources.
If their strategies succeed, in the years to come, I hope to see such a world: everyone, white or black, brown or yellow, can stand side by side, equal, happy, and harmonious. There is diversity; there is unity.

A couple of days ago, I saw the newly enrolled freshmen in the military training under the glowing sun. They wear the same, move the same, eat the same, and sing together, they do everything under one same command without an exception. I could see sweet smiles on their faces though the heat of summer was melting them. Why? Because this is an once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for
them to feel no different from others. No matter where you are from, rich or poor, boy or girl, you are part of this battalion; you are comparatively insignificant but absolutely irreplaceable.
This is a force. It’s unity.
We are the world because of unity. It enables the international co-operational manufacture by setting up unified standards for everything. A nail produced in China can be perfectly used in any corner of the world.
Therefore, it is unity that leads world into a perfect harmony!
However, don’t you think it’s a little bit boring with unity ruling the world only? What would you do if someone orders you to do whatever he does without allowing you to do what you really want? Apparently, you’ll be going nuts, because you are not leading a life of your own. So, to us, diversity talks!
Before I went to college, my dad asked me: son, did you think of being outstanding? If you want to be outstanding, you have to stand out, stand out of normal routine which other people consider the only way to success.
But dad’s words went in one ear and out the other! I had no idea whether dad was right or wrong until the day I found I was no longer myself. I put myself in a jar full of people. I work when they work, I panic when they panic, and I waste time when they waste time. This is no laughing matter but a horrible disaster. Afterwards, I kept telling myself: I am a student, and I do what a student should do. This is our unity. But does this mean we have to sacrifice our diversity to save the orderly image of unity? Not exactly! Unity stops us getting into chaos while diversity makes life colorful.
From then on, my long-covered specialty was evoked and set me on a special track to my dreams.
I got back what I had lost. It’s a great feeling that you realize you still have the ability to surprise yourself: I found a part-time job as an oral-English teacher in a private school. I love English and work joyfully though my major has nothing to do with English at all. I stood out and made a difference. I found “I am what I am, and I am happy to be me.”
Ladies and gentlemen, one color is dull, but the combination of 7 colors is rainbow. Remember that you are no different, and this is how you get confident; engrave it in your heart that you are unique, and this is how you get successful! Thank you!

Success is getting up one more time than you fall down. But when failures knocks you down. Will you have the confidence to get up？So self-confidence is essential to success .
Self-confidence means the firm belief that you can do things well. It is believed to be the first secret of success. If you want to succeed in doing anything, you must have confidence in your abilities. and I
deeply aware that nothing can defeat a person who full of confidence.
Self-confidence gives you light when you are in dark, and gives you encouragement when you are disappointed. It is self-confidence that inspires you to cope with any hard task. With self-confidence, you believe that you can and will succeed, and this gives you the courage to try new things.
Some people find most of the things impossible, saying, “It is beyond my ability to do the task.” or “I am not fit for it.” these are only lame excuses. When our heart is void of self-confidence, every hope is gone, we will always living in the moments of fear and thoughtless.
So ladies and gentlemen do you have it in you? If you think you don’t, boost up youself as your mind is your greatest mentor.

I am Erica. I would like to tell you my own story.
During the National Day my family went out for dinner. We went downstairs by lift, but after 1 minute the lift stopped suddenly, so we were trapped in it.
“I am scared, Mum!” I shouted, and my younger sister also cried. Dad called 110 for help. The policewoman was very kind and said “take it easy, the firefighter will come in 10 minutes.”
At the same time Mum let me sing a song with my sister. And we felt better while singing the ABC song.
Five minutes later, the door was opened by the firefighter.
“Dad, look! firefighters!” I shouted excitedly.
“Don’t worry, you are safe now.” the firefighter said to me like a hero. The firefighter saved us and I was deeply touched.
Now I want to be a hero, because I want to help more people!

I am honour to stand here to deliver my speech .And my topic today is about future. As we all know, man?s life is a process of growing up, actually I?m standing here is a growth. Once I hope I can study in a college in future, however that?s passed, as you know I come here, now I wonder what the future holds for me.
When I come to this school, I told to myself: this my near future, all starts here. Once my teacher said :” you are not sewing, you are stylist; never forget which you should lay out to people is your thought, not craft.” I will put my personality with my interest and ability into my study, during these process I will combine learning with doing. If I can achieve this “future”, I think that I really grow up. And I deeply believe kindred, good-fellowship and love will perfection and happy in thefuture.
How to say future? Maybe it?s a nice wish. Lets make up our minds, stick to it and surely well enjoy our life.

2008 sees the joys and sorrows of China. The snow disaster ,the earthquake and the Olympics all happened in this particular year. We chinese had never suffered such disaters and held the Olympics for the first time. That was a big challenge for us. But the strong chinese nation would fight until he dropped! Just as the saying goes, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Hard work paid off. The disasters has gone by and the Olympics has been a big hit throughout the world.

We Are Family 2008 is a special year for Beijing for the Olympic Games. It is a special year for me too. I watched 8 games. The Olympic Games let me know, for all of the people in the world, we are family. In the 16 days, I saw different people from different countries. I heard different languages in the world. I sat next to English, American, Canadian and Korean when watching hockey games. I shouted “Go! Go! Go!” with Argentinian and Serbian when watching football match. In the Olympic Park, Australian friends shared their small gifts with Russian, German, French and Chinese. Everybody from different countries smiled at each other. Everybody was friendly to each other in these 16 days.
This is Olympic. It brings friendship, it brings peace.
I will remember the Beijing Olympic Games in my life.
In 2008, I understand, we are living in earth village.
I believe, we are family of the world.

Global Citizenship Begins at Home
When I saw this title , I felt a little nervous, if I could expound this topic for you clearly, maybe my wisdom was enough to help me write a masterpiece in every field. Unfortunately , I cannot. And fortunately, in less than 3 minutes will you know my ideas.
I think the most unbelievable news in the last century is we are genetically 99.9% the same. Do you feel a little excited, now? I did, when I first time heard it from the radio. And suddenly realized that we are born to be the same. This eye-catching news approved what we called “global village”, and then told us we are born with a “global citizenship” just like with the character.
However, same to the character, global citizenship is not only accepted by oneself ,but also by others. As traditional Chinese saying goes, “thousands of miles should begin at first step”. Only if we have a good beginning at home — step first we firmly stepped, it would be easy for other global citizens to admit us .
But you may feel a little bored to listen to my lecture and ask “what do you really want us to know?”
So let’s pay attention to our motherland. China has set us good examples to favor the title “global citizenship begins at home”. More than a hundred years ago, when the old Chinese government limited economic growth and lock his doors against the world. He missed the best opportunity to develop himself. He abandoned home, but was eager for an absolute global citizenship. He wanted to ignore the first step but jump far. Let alone other countries with an ulterior motive, I cannot agree. But now everything is changing. China is enjoying his broaden global citizenship in global affairs. Only when he is getting stronger himself, the global citizenship is truly owned by himself.
Honor judges and dear friends, remember “global citizenship begins at home”, our dream should be that we keep on going to conform the changing world and keep our global
citizenship worthy. As long as our dream outweighs our ability, the world, our country and ourselves will be forever young. That’s is our destiny. And this is our moment.

globalization .While we accept western culture, some of us lost themselves in the ?cultural sea?. Chances are that we are likely to lose our own traditional cultures . So ,the cultural globalization which is caused by economic globalization may be harmful to our country?s scientific development.
As is well known to all , culture is the pillar of science .But there exist two
phenomenon in the process of globation . One is some people called ?Mr West ? 。They accept western culture without any judgement , and they don?t care whether it is good or not . For instance ,maybe someone has found that western festivals are more and more popular such as Christmas and Valentine’s day. At the same time ,Chinese traditional festivals are fading away in our memories .we can?t image how a country could develop with its own culture lost. Well , another is called ? When the topic “people and nature” first caught my eye, I was reminded
of a story about myself and my violin.
I began learning to play the violin when I was eight years old. At first, it was a very hard thing for me. After my continued efforts, I was
able to play a lot of musical pieces very soon.
I felt so proud of myself that I began to behave arrogantly. My violin teacher noticed this and told me: “To be a good violin player,
you should first of all love and respect your violin. You should obey the
rules of playing it so as to make harmonious melodies. Remember, play the
violin not only with your hands, but also with your heart and soul. ”
Ladies and gentlemen, I believe that nature is to people what my violin
is to me. Isn’t it true that people deal with nature just as I play the
violin? Isn’t it true that we have been so arrogant that we take liberties
with nature, which brings about the discord between nature and ourselves?
Since my violin and I have finally reached harmony, why can’t people

nature head toward the same direction?
